I cover some propaganda stuff in one of my courses, and, alongside the Riefenstahl, in the interest of promoting media literacy, I've also been trying to expose students to anti-propaganda stuff—in the form of original art from independent artists. In this vein, I played Alix Olson's spoken-word performance art piece "America's on Sale." The class, mostly cheery young men, seemed stunned. But the one young woman with blue hair declared, "She's awesome!"
