If you haven't yet started watching
Damages, you now have a compelling reason:
Lily Tomlin. Yes, Tomlin, out lesbian and one of the best loved entertainers in America, has joined the dark and devilish cast of the television drama that stars Glenn Close as an evil sort of seductress. It is a stroke of genius to cast not only our girl Lily but also Martin Short, because these two comedians bring a layer of high camp to the show, now in its third season. I hope this means the plot will veer from the unnecessary violence of the previous seasons and instead continue to pursue the outrageous. The story line in
Damages this season is basically the Madoff scandal, and Tomlin plays the equivalent of Ruth Madoff. In one scene, Tomlin is in a fur coat speaking with her son (Campbell Scott), while a long cigarette hangs from her mouth. The cigarette bounces up and down while she talks. It's too funny.
