Sounders vittoriosi in casa dei Timbers nel posticipo

Il derby del Nord Ovest tra Portland Timbers ed i Seattle Sounders sorride ai secondi al termine di un secondo tempo emozionante e pieno di colpi di scena, mentre il primo tempo è risultato più opaco, anche se è da rimarcare un provvidenziale intervento alla disperata di Troy Perkins sull’uruguagio Alvaro Fernandez.

In apertura di ripresa, i padroni di casa trovano il primo vantaggio con un vivacissimo ghanese Khalif Alhassan che serve un cross sul primo palo dove nel duello tra l'attaccante Perlaza e Jeff Parke esce un rimpallo che mette fuori causa Kasey Keller.

Poco dopo i Sounders perdono per infortunio il centrale difensivo colombiano Jhon Kennedy Hurtado e per cui si teme un nuovo lungo stop ed al suo posto entra Ianni. Non c'è il tempo per piangersi addosso, punizione perfetta dai venticinque metri di Fredy Montero con palla che scavalca la barriera e scende a fil di palo.

I Sounders sembrano aver più qualità davanti, ma sono ancora i Timbers a trovare il gol ed ancora una volta a mettere fuori causa è una deviazione di Wahl su un tiro in diagonale del colombiano Jorge Perlaza a cui spetta l'assegnazione della rete.

Ancora una volta la formazione di Sigi Schmid si trova ad inseguire ed il tecnico di origini tedesche inserisce Lamar Neagle che innesca Mauro Rosales che con un assist al volo serve al centro area dove Fredy Montero concede il bis per il 2-2.

Neppure dieci minuti ed il giovane e guizzante Neagle scatta sul filo del fuorigioco e viene steso in area da Brunner, espulsione e rigore: sul dischetto il cubano Osvaldo Alonso, tiro radente all’angolino alla sinistra di Perkins, pur intuendo non ci arriva ed è l’epilogo al derby. Seattle scavalca Dallas al secondo posto della Western Conference con il nono successo stagionale, nona sconfitta invece per l’undici di John Spencer.

Week 17: la cinquina dei Red Bulls vale la vetta nel

Si è inagurato il quadro del ricco turno della Week #17, infrasettimanale che segue a breve distanza le sfide del 4 luglio, con ben 4 anticipi in cui spicca il successo in extremis dei Columbus Crew in casa dei Vancouver Whitecaps, il pari tra Sporting KC e Colorado Rapids, ed infine la sonora cinquina rimediata dai Toronto di Winter di fronte a degli scatenati Red Bulls. Week #17: due anticipi per il patriottico 4 luglio

Doppio appuntamento in campo per il 4 luglio della MLS con sfide di lustro al Rio Tinto tra Real Salt Lake e New England Revolution ed all'Home Depot Center tra Los Angeles Galaxy e Seattle Sounders.

Lo spettacolo in campo e fuori non è certo mancato, ma i gol sono arrivati solo nella prima delle due sfide chiusa sul 3-3, mentre nella seconda lo 0-0 rimarrà alla memoria sopratutto per il debutto con porta inviolata del terzo portiere Brian Perk (ex UCLA, già nazionale under 20).

Nello Utah sfida subito in salita per la squadra di casa di Jason Kreis che rimane in dieci per il rosso a Borchers e rigore contro trasformato dal serbo-danese Rajko Lekic, e poi raddoppio del mancino Chris Tierney. A scrollare di dosso le paure ci pensa al 24' il centrocampista canadese Will Johnson e perviene al pari con un rigore trasformato da Alvaro Saborio al 55'.

Revs nuovamente in vantaggio al 63' con capitan Shalrie Joseph che raccoglie l'invito di Feilhaber per battere Rimando e gelando i tifosi di casa, poco dopo però viene ristabilita la parità numerica in campo con la seconda ammonizione a Cochrane e all'83' a togliere le castagne dal fuoco scongiurando una pericolosa sconfitta interna è l'argentino Fabian Espindola.

Più tatticismi, invece, in California: dove la squadra di Bruce Arena non riesce a prevalere su quella di Sigi Schmid che al minuto 17 ha la più ghiotta occasione, dopo averne sprecata già una con Levesque da favorevole posizione, con un rigore concesso per un mani di Gonzalez sul tentativo di rovesciata di Fredy Montero. Lo stesso attaccante colombiano si presenta sul dischetto con un tiro sulla destra del giovane portiere dei californiani che intuisce e mantiene inviolata la sua porta.

Nella ripresa i Galaxy, in campo con un elegantissima terza maglia che stride con quella giallo canarino dei Sounders, provano a forzare ma non vanno oltre un palo scheggiato nel finale da Juan Pablo Angel.
